Cleaning Your HVAC System
3/10/2020 (Permalink)
It is necessary to continue to keep your HVAC system clean and in good condition to avoid large amounts of dirt and dust from getting trapped. Like any piece of equipment, the HVAC system needs to be cleaned in order to be kept in good condition and avoid costly damages. If the HVAC system had a buildup of dirt or growth, it could potentially compromise the efficiency and performance of the system. While it is important to have your HVAC system professionally cleaned, there are a few ways to cut costs and clean on your own. SERVPRO of Hermitage/Donelson has a few tips in order to get started on cleaning!
Inspect Air Filters.
One important element that can be done at home is changing out the Air Filters in your HVAC system. Too much dirt or bacteria in the filters can slow down the system or potentially cause health issues. It is important to check and update your air filters routinely, every 30 to 90 days is recommended.
Listen for anything unusual.
While this one may seem obvious, it’s easy to dismiss any unusual noises or not recognize what consistent sounds your HVAC system makes. Try to listen closely to the sounds your HVAC system makes so you can recognize anything out of the ordinary. If you notice that you have been hearing sounds you haven’t heard before coming from your system, try to locate the sound and find a solution or contact a professional.
Look out for debris.
If your system is outdoors, you will likely see a buildup of dirt, leaves, and debris on your HVAC system. It is important to routinely clean this buildup in order to keep airflow consistent. You can do so with gloves and hands or use a hose to wash off any accumulation of debris.
While these are just a few tips to keep your system in good shape, you can contact our highly trained team of professionals at SERVPRO of Hermitage/Donelson for more advice or cleaning assistance at (615) 885-3906!
